Elderly in Lwengo want presidential age restriction removed

The elderly in Bukoto South, Lwengo district have called for the removal of the presidential age limit to pave way for President Yoweri Museveni to continue leading the country.

The  elderly, who had  gathered at Kankamba health centre on  Friday to receive over 500 blankets donated by Excel Insurance in memory of the company' managing director, David Walakira who was buried in Lwengo last month, said  President Museveni deserves to continue as president even after clocking 75 years of age because he is a pro-people leader.

"We still believe in the leadership of President Museveni because of the peace and progress achieved in our area. We should not restrict him, it will be difficult to get a pro-people leader like him," their co-ordinator said.

The area MP,Hajji Muyanja Mbabali  referred the matter  back to them to decide when they tasked him with talking about the debate on the age limit and land bill.

Mbabali who later backed the elderly on the matter, said the nation should support President Museveni for peace and stability to sustain development in the country.

"The electricity and water extension in our areas are visible. The roads have also been constructed. Let us all join hands to protect President Museveni. With him, the country is assured of growth," he said.

Mbabali said "Even the forests need the mature trees to keep it firm,"   On the land bill, Mbabali assured the residents that the Government will not take away anybody's land without compensation.

He warned the people, especially those in rural areas to strengthen Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE) programmes as a strategy to save money.

"Boarding schools have financially ruined our people, they charge a lot of money and our people can hardly save. Let us strengthen our UPE and USE programmes for quality education," he said.
