The General Manager of Oasis Mall, Dany John, has dismissed talk on social media that Nakumatt Supermarket products are up for auction
.

"That is all fake news. Nakumatt was closed because of rent arrears," he said, without disclosing how much it owes.

Social media was awash with information that there would be auctioning of goods at Nakumatt starting September 5, at 10:00am, and that goods would be as low as 50% off of the original price, starting with perishables and drinks.

When New Vision visited their brunch at Oasis Mall, customers were stranded outside the entrance, doors sealed off.

There was a note on one of the doors indicating that Uganda Revenue Authority had closed the premises for failure to comply with tax obligations.

It should be noted that Nakumatt shut down several outlets in the country, including at Acacia, Village and Victoria malls in Kampala and Entebbe.
In April, Kenya media reported that the supermarket had accumulated debt estimated at sh609.1b.
