Kobs win Kyadondo 7s Circuit

Thunderbirds 12 Entebbe Ladies 5/MVP: Samiya Ayikoru (Thunderbirds)

Rivals Kobs beat Buffaloes 12-7 in the final to win the first leg of the National Rugby 7s tournament at Kyadondo Rugby grounds on Saturday.

Kevin Keremundu gave Buffaloes a 7-0 half-time lead through a try and conversion.

Kobs replied with a try by Joseph Aredo and a conversion by James Ijongat to tie the score at 7-7.

Edgar Sseruwagi scored another try for Kobs  to seal a 12-7 victory.

"We came determined to defend our title and the only way to fulfill our target was by winning today's circuit," said Kobs team captain Joseph Aredo.

Kobs received a sh1.5m cash prize while Buffaloes' Robert Masinde was named most valuable player (MVP) and bagged sh250,000.

 

Meanwhile in women's category, Thunderbirds defeated Entebbe Ladies 12-5 to win the trophy.

USPA female rugby player of 2015, Samiya Ayikoru, scored two tries while Aisha Nakityo added a conversion to give the Kyadondo side victory.

Ayikoru also emerged the MVP of the event.

Clubs will renew their rivalry in Jinja on Saturday in the second leg of the National Circuit.
