Army mourns Brig. Kyabihende

He was a Company Commander in 3rd Battalion under Col. Lumumba at the time of the NRA/NRM liberation of Uganda in 1986.

Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces is mourning the passing of Brigadier Geoffrey Kyabihende Taban on Monday morning at Nakasero hospital - Kampala after natural illness.

In a statement signed by Brig. Richard Karemire, UPDF's spokesperson, Kyabihende, who had since May 2014 been Uganda's Defence Attaché to the Democratic Republic of Congo, was described as an illustrious, highly trained, dedicated officer and a gentleman whose services will greatly be missed by the UPDF fraternity.

"He was a Company Commander in 3rd Battalion under Col Lumumba at the time of the NRA/NRM liberation of Uganda in 1986 and rose to the level of Brigade and Division Commander in various NRA/UPDF units and formations during his time of service," read the statement.

"Our deepest condolences go to his family and relatives," it further read.

Other positions he held include Director Liaison NRA/British Military Training Team, Deputy Camp Commandant and Chairman Division Court Martial - Land Force Headquarter - Bombo and Cantonment Commander Magamaga.

Burial arrangements in Kazo District for the fallen officer will be announced later.
