A national task force has completed the drafting of the bill.

Government is in the process of repealing the 1964 Sports Act and introduce the Physical Activity Sports (PAS) bill 2017 to provide a structured process of support for sports and physical education.

According to the National Council of Sports (NCS) assistant general secretary in charge of administration Bernard Ogwel, a national task force has completed the drafting of the bill.

Ogwel was representing government and particularly the state minister of sports Charles Bakkabulindi at the 93rd FUFA assembly at the Kabalega Resort Hotel in Masindi.

"Meetings have been concluded and soon the Physical Activity Sports bill will be presented to parliament. This is the only way for government to streamline support for sport in Uganda. It is a sign that government is ready to continue supporting sports," Ogwel said.

He said that to start with, the government has lined up five key performing sports including football in Uganda among priority beneficiaries of the policy.

At the moment national federations and associations do not have a funding policy from government and so depend on handouts from National Council of Sport (NCS).
