Former KCCA player Joseph Ochaya currently with Zambia’s Lusaka Dynamos won the accolade last year.
Geoffrey Sserunkuma is the favourite for the footballer of the year accolade at the second edition of the Uganda Premier League (UPL) awards that are slated for July 26th in Kampala.
The 34-year-old striker is competing for the accolade with Onduparaka's Mohammad Shaban and former SC Villa player Emmanuel Okwi who recently joined Tanzania side Simba. Sserunkuma will also walk away with the top scorer award after scoring 21 goals in the league.

Habib Kavuma who has been one of KCCA ‘s key players in defence last season will compete for defender of the year accolade with teammate Timothy Awanyi and Vipers' Halid Lwaliwa.
Coach Mike Mutebi who guided KCCA to their first double and qualifying for the group stages of the CAF Confederation, is tipped to be ahead of Abbey Kikomeko (Kirinya Jinja) and Wasswa Bbosa (SC Villa) for the coach of the year award.
KCCA's Muzamiru Mutyaba , Saddam Juma and Shafik Kagimu of URA will battle for the best midfielder accolade.
Benjamin Ochan (KCCA), Isma Watenga (Vipers) Thomas Ikara (Kirinya) will face stiff competition for the best goalkeeper award while Allan Okello (KCCA), Frank Tumwesigye (Vipers) and Thomas Ikara (Kirinya) each has a chance of winning the young player accolade.
KCCA's goalkeeping coach Daniel Kiwanuka will vie for the best goalkeeping coach award with Sam Kawalya and Stephen Kigundu of Express and Vipers respectively.
Winners from the fan's player, fair play award (club and individual), UPL best 11, fan of the year, life time achiever will also be recognized.
Apart from accolades and cash among other prizes will be given out to the winners. Africel,Tropical Bank, Coca cola, Nile Special, KCCA, BUL, Uganda Health Marketing Group are some of the sponsors of the event.
