Bukedea residents excited over new sub-counties

Residents and local leaders in Bukedea district on Thursday danced and rejoiced as the state minister for local government Jennifer Namuyangu commissioned nine newly created sub county administrative units.

The minister also handed over an ambulance that was donated by Bukedea Member of Parliament John Bosco Ikojo to the district authorities to help in handling emergencies.

In 2006 Bukedea district was curved off from Kumi district with only five sub counties with one town council but more nine sub counties have been created bringing the numbers to 14 sub counties with two town councils of Bukedea and Kachumbala.

Residents and local leaders danced to local music as they praised President Yoweri Museveni and his government for full filling his pledges he made while traversing Teso sub region hunting for votes.

The newly created sub counties include Aligoi, Kangole, Koena, Aminit, Kamutur, Kabarwa, Kwarikwar, Kocheka and Kachumala town council.

"We are celebrating the new creation of Budekea district and new sub counties because in the past, Bukedea county could be treated as dumping ground and we were being oppressed by our mother district Kumi," Bukedea LC5 chairperson Moses Olemukan said.

"We thank president Museveni for fulfilling his pledge and we promise and Bukedea people will continue voting for NRM. We also thank government for giving us sh1.9b to extend safe clean water to Bukedea district," Olemukan said.

Bukedea chief administrative officer (CAO) Charles Komakech noted that new sub counties started operating on July 1^st, 2017 and that sub counties are being managed by senior secretaries.

"We appeal to Electoral commission to expedite the process of organizing for the elections of LC3 chairpersons because they are operating without." Komakech said

Bukedea Member of Parliament, John Bosco Ikojo donated a sh250m fully equipped ambulance to handle emergencies and pledged to continue meeting bills of repairing in case of breakdown.

The state minister for local government Jennifer Namuyangu appealed to the new civil servants to ensure that quality service delivery is priority.

"Some of you did not believe that government had given you more nine new sub counties. Time is now and only thing is that stop fighting each other but unite to develop them," Namuyangu said.

Namuyangu also appealed to the care takers of these new sub counties to work hard and transform people from peasant farming of agriculture to commercial farming.
