The Uganda North American Association(UNAA) has partnered with religious leaders and donated a clean water source for Kasangati children at Kidde Primary School.

The spring well, constructed in a modern way, was funded by a Ugandan organization based in North America called Bethany house Initiative headed by Father Emanuel Katongole (a Ugandan professor lecturing theology at the University of Notre Dame Indiana) in conjunction with UNAA.

While commissioning this project on Wednesday, UNAA president Monday Atigo Said that its their obligation as Ugandans abroad to help fellow and needy Ugandans back home.

"UNAA is a friend of communities, we do contribute to the growth of every sector in our mother country, these acts of kindness and giving back are things we have to celebrate. So this is only to show support and we need more people to do such things in order to change our communities," Atigo noted.

He called on the young generations benefiting from projects like this one to take it as a learning point so because as they grow the world will always have people who need their support in any form.
Father Katongole the founder of Bethany house Initiative said that his, is a response to a call from God to help the needy.

"Am born and raised in Uganda in a small village called Malube, I went to primary school in Kisammula under conditions that are even worse than some of these we are seeing here, we had no water, electricity, pens, black boards, and my parents didn't go to school, but I am now a professor in one of the biggest American universities. I cannot forget the problems of where I come from, the problems of lack of water, lack of quality and safe education. I want to help others to become like me, that is the driving force behind everything that I am doing," said Father Katongole.

The UNAA special envoy Zephaniah Kizza Sseninde (husband to Minister Rosemary Nansubuga Sseninde) said that besides projects like this one which are conducted in partnership with other organizations, UNAA is also going on with the distribution of hospital equipment in the different parts of the country's government health facilities.

"On behalf of UNAA, the speaker of the Uganda parliament the right honourable Rebecca Kadaga has been distributing medical equipment in areas like Kalangala, Kakuuto, Kamuli and others. I led the team which distributed maternity ward beds in Kasangati, Kasana, Budyebo in Nakasaongola, Lira in Aboke health center," said Sseninde.

Atigo revealed that all these equipment which have been distributed in the last few weeks, are worth $1.5 US million.
Meanwhile before commissioning the water project, Atigo led the team from the diaspora, to lauch a tree planting and environment protection campaign in parts of Kasangati town council.

Residetns of Kasangati and pupils of Kidde primary school participated in the activities.
