FIGHT AGAINST CHILD SACRIFICE

Mukono diocese has launched a campaign against child sacrifice and other forms of violations committed against children.

The campaign code named "The diocesan star" was launched in Namagabi parish in Kayunga district and the clergy together with members of the community cleaned Kayunga Central Market.

The youth coordinator in Mukono diocese, Rev. William Konde said the initiative involves sensitizing parents about proper upbringing of children and how best they can guard them against human rights violations like child sacrifice, defilement, child labour, among others.

Rev. Konde said that cases of child sacrifice are rampant in the country and this prompted the church to come up with such a campaign to sensitize parents on how they can save children from such practices.

"We remind everybody that without the young people, the country has no future because they are the future politicians, clergy, doctors, teacher," said Rev. Konde.

"Therefore it's everyone's role to safeguard them and ensure they are given whatever they need to live a happy life."

It is understood the campaign will rotate around districts of Mukono, Buikwe and Buvuma.
