Masaka district LC5 chairman Jude Mbabaali (pictured) has taken over the Uganda premier league-relegated side Lweza FC.

The former Kajjansi side that was dropped from top-tier football last season last season has had financial constraints in recent months.

It's reported that former owner of the club Ahmed Ddamulira sold the club to Mbabaali but he will remain with minority shares (25%).

The club is reportedly going to shift its base from Kajjansi and Wankulukuku Stadium, where they were hosting their home games, to Masaka.

Besides financial constraints, the club also grappled with issues that hurt their ambitions, including massive player exodus, fans' migration to rivals Vipers, among others.

Lweza, which was known for grooming young players, ended up releasing some players and resorted to recruiting veterans.

John  Kisakye, Swaib Mudde, Charles Sempa, Owen Kasule, Juma Balinya, Rajab Kakooza left the club to look for greener pastures.

Mbabaali joins several other politicians who have come out to own football clubs. Western Youth MP Hon Mwine Mpaka owns newly promoted side Mbarara City.
