“If Dr. Besigye becomes President, he will be protected, not because he is President, but because of the decisions that he will make as President,” she said.

The minister for Kampala Beti Kamya has hit back at former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Dr. Kizza Besigye, who recently wondered why her home was surrounded by weapons.

"If Dr. Besigye becomes President, he will be protected, not because he is President, but because of the decisions that he will make as President," she said.

Kamya, the former Rubaga North MP and FDC founder member, said people who are not in public office such as Besigye have no threats because they have no decisions to make that affect people.

"Dr Besigye can only give opinions. That is why even the President of USA (Barrack Obama) is still protected long after he is out of office because of the decisions he made when he was in office, but the members of the Opposition are not protected even in the US because they don't make decisions that impact on the people," Kamya said.

Besigye wonders

Speaking at FDC's 10th National Council meeting held at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi recently, Besigye asked: "Beti Kamya was an MP of Rubaga; now I see her home is surrounded by all kinds of weapons in her own constituency. Why?"

He lashed out at Kamya and former Kampala mayor Hajji Nasser Ntege Sebaggala for 'failing' to serve the public interest.  Besigye wondered why Kamya was very popular and now she has to be protected from the very people who supported her. He said: "People are intelligent; they will rotate around an individual as long as they think that individual is serving their interests and they will support a campaign if they think that campaign is for their interests."
