Nakiwala's nomination raises eyebrows

The nomination of Express FC chairperson Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi as one of the candidates for post of FUFA vice president has raised a lot of concern within the football fraternity.
Nakiwala and Kirinya Jinja SS' Diana Nyago were over the weekend voted by Azam Uganda Premier League clubs to the FUFA Assembly.
Nakiwala secured 10 votes to make her first choice to the assembly while Nyago got 6 votes.
According to FUFA statues, Article 33, section four states that for one to be an executive member he/she has to have experience of at least four years.
"The members of the Executive Committee shall be no older than 70 years and no younger than 25 years at the moment of the election. They shall have had football administrative experience as defined in the FUFA electoral code for a period of at least four years within the seven years preceding the election," the statute reads.
Despite being at Express for just one year ever since she was appointed in June last year, FUFA electoral committee chairman Sam Bakiika feels Nakiwala has the requirements for the post.
"First of all one to vie for the post of vice-president he or she has to be among the executive of a certain club which Hon Nakiwala is. This means this makes her eligible for the post," stated Bakiika.
"Although Nakiwala won she needs to confirmed by the FUFA Assembly. If she fails to raise 45 votes from 88 delegates, then the chance will go to Nyago. If both fail, then electoral committee will now organize new elections for the 3rd vice president. But the winner can be approved in the next assembly" he added.
88 delegates will usher in a new executive on August 5th in Masindi to run from 2017-21.
Incumbent Moses Magogo is headed for the elections as the only candidate for the FUFA president.
