Japan Government has completed the construction of a sh389m Girls' Dormitory for Mutanywana Secondary School in Kasese District. The project shall be commissioned on June 28 and the function will be provided over by H.E. Kazuaki Kameda, the Ambassador of Japan to Uganda

According to the official statement from Japanese Embassy in Kampala, double decker beds, mattresses and shelves have also been provided in the dormitory that accommodates about 178 girl children.

"The support is part of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), a scheme by the Embassy of Japan to support community development projects to uplift the life of people at the grassroots," reads part of the statement.

The statement also highlighted that 222 projects have so far been funded under GGP since its initiation in Uganda in 1992. Under the programme, other dormitories have been built in Gulu.

In western Uganda, 52 projects have been implemented and Mutanywana is the 5th beneficiary in Kasese district.

Mutanywana Secondary School located in Kyarumba sub-county, Kasese District was established in 1981 and had only one girls' hostel that was overcrowded and this forced some to rent outside school or commute from home. This exposed the girls to dangers of sexual abuse.
