Relatives of Kaweesi murder suspects barred from court

Jun 15, 2017

The move follows a fracas that happened in the court premises about a fortnight ago, when the spouses threw children of the accused to prison warders as they were led to the court holding cells.

Spouses and relatives of the suspects accused over the murder of former Assistant Inspector General Police (AIGP) Andrew Felix Kaweesi were this morning (Thursday) barred from accessing court premises.

The move follows a fracas that happened in the court premises about a fortnight ago, when the spouses threw children of the accused to prison warders as they were led to the court holding cells.

The spouses were only able to see the suspects, who waved at them while in a maroon prison bus as they stood outside the court gate. The suspects were being led to Luzira Prison at about 9:30am in company of a police van.

They also tried to protest outside the court premises but they were calmed down by the Anti-riot police officers, who were heavily deployed at the court premises until the suspects were taken back to Luzira Prison and they also dispersed one by one.

Kaweesi was murdered together with his body guard Kenneth Erau and driver Geoffrey Mambewo on the morning of March, 17, 2017, meters away from his home in Kulambiro, Nakawa division.

Prosecution alleges that the accused and others still at large on March 17, 2017 conspired to murder Kaweesi, his body guard Erau and driver Mambewo.

It further alleges that the accused and others still at large with intent to influence government and intimidate the public for social, economic, and political gains involved themselves in the acts of terrorism.

Prosecution also claims that the accused also used a gun or any other weapon and robbed Erau a rifle SMG and a pistol.

It is further stated that the accused rendered support to Bruhan Balyejusa, Jimmy Ogutu and Noordin alias Taata Abudal-razak in executing terrorism
