Locally known as katunkuma or obutula, bitter berries are becoming a popular addition to Ugandans' plates than previously.
They use grown by small households and often eaten steamed as a side-dish in the Buganda community.
Today, bitter berries are on high demand, especially among Ugandans for health reasons. With this elevated demand, farmers had to start growing the berries on a commercial scale.
Lately, these tiny highly nutritious delight are said to cure health conditions like bad breath, high and low blood pressure, and many more.
They are on high demand on the Ugandan market, especially in Kampala markets. It's the on-season.
A plastic cup that previously cost sh1,000 - sh1,500 back then now costs sh2,000.
