Carrot prices high, cucumber supply up

A sack of carrots which used to cost between sh110, 000 to sh150,000 is currently at sh200, 000 for whole sale buyers according to Denis Mukasa, a vendor in Kibuye market.

Two weeks back, the supply of carrots had reduced in Nakasero, Nakawa, Kalerwe and Kibuye markets.

The low supply has forced vendors to increase prices of carrots and oranges.

A sack of carrots which used to cost between sh110, 000 to sh150,000 is currently at sh200, 000 for whole sale buyers according to Denis Mukasa, a vendor in Kibuye market.

In Nakasero market, a basket or tin of carrots ranges from sh10, 000 to sh50, 000 depending on the size of the basket.

For small scale buyers, one can get six small carrots at sh1, 000 and big ones at sh2, 000 along Luwum street.

Vendors are blaming the rainy season which strained the transportation of the vegetable imported from neighbouring countries like Kenya and Rwanda.

Cucumber

There is high supply of cucumbers in most city markets it being a rainy season.

At Kalerwe market, the whole sale price ranges from sh15, 000 to sh20, 000 per sack.

 
For those taking in small quantities, one can get eight cucumbers at sh2, 000 along Luwum Street and in Nakasero market
