Ibanda police arrests two NDA employee masqueraders

The Ibanda district Police Commander Dennis Ochama told reporters that the duo had solicited more than Shs 400,000 from different clinics and drug shop operators in the name of shielding them from being closed given irregularities they operate under.

Police in Ibanda district has arrested two men in their early 30's who have been masquerading as National Drug Authority employees with the intention of extorting money from private clinic operators in Ibanda  and  the western region.

Tweyambe Godwin (33) a former primary teacher who hails from Kitagata Sheema District  and Rugaaju Kiiza (35) a resident of Mbarara who says he works as an office attendant with Mbarara Municipal council were arrested over the weekend in Nyamareebe sub county Ibanda district.

Tweyambe Godwin carried a forged identity card indicating that he was the drugs inspector from the ministry National Drug Authority headquarters in Kampala.

The Ibanda district Police Commander  Dennis Ochama told reporters that the duo had solicited more than Shs 400,000   from different clinics and drug shop operators in the name of shielding them from being closed given irregularities they operate under.

"We were tipped by concerned people who became suspicious of the vehicle that the arrested suspects were travelling in UAG 94N Suzuki Vital. We followed them up and we arrested them when we found them asking money from a drug shop operator in Kanyurugiri Trading centre" Ochama said.

The duo who pleaded guilty of extortion and impersonation charges are being held at Ibanda Police station under the case reference file SD REF 04/13/ 05/2017.
