Mukono high beat Kawempe to win girls' soccer tourney Aloysius Byamukama Kawempe Moslem’s dominance in Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games girls soccer came to an end, when they lost to Mukono High in the finals as the games ended Sunday in Kabale. Kawempe, who had won a record 7 titles including back to back titles since 2012, failed to achieve their dream of an 8th accolade, as Mukono beat them 4-1 in penalties after a tense 0-0 normal time draw at Police grounds in the heart of Kabale town. Kawempe had eliminated favourites Uganda Martyrs Rubaga 2-0 in the semis. Their players; Moreen Aduralu, captain Mariam Nakabugo and Grace Aluka, failed to convert their penalties as Mukono converted all the four to spark wild cerebrations from the Kabale supports. Gadaffi Integrated won third place after beating new comers Uganda Martyrs also 4-3 in penalties following a 0-0 stalemate in normal time. In Basketball, St Marys Kitende won their 5th consecutive girls title after beating Buddo SS 44-41 while Kibuli won their first boys title in 5 years, with a 69-32 revenge win over rivals Buddo SS. In Hockey Boys, Ntare School won the gold after collecting 13 points with Kasasa coming second after holders Kakungulu Memorial were eliminated and banned for using ineligible players. In the girls category, Kakungulu retained the title after topping with a single loss, with Namagunga coming second. Kibuli won the boys badminton and Mbogo High won in the girls category, Mbogo High in boys table tennis with Mbogo College winning in the girls category, while in lawn tennis, Kibuli won in both boys and girls. Namilyango College had won in the Rugby 15 after beating Ntare School 20-03 in yesterday’s finals.
