How to maintain solar equipment

“When the technician inspects the solar system, he should know what is wrong with your solar energy,” says Yiga.

Many people buy solar energy thinking that it will last forever.  But what happens when your solar system stops working   suddenly?

This shouldn't cause you to panic because it can be fixed.   Mubarak Iga of Good Electronics on Kampala Road says that before you do anything, check with your technician.

"When the technician inspects the solar system, he should know what is wrong with your solar energy," says Yiga.

William Lutaaya, a technician with Storm Technology says that sometimes your solar system can stop working because of battery.    "The battery might be dead or expired, and it needs to be replaced," says Lutaaya.

He adds:" Genuine battery of solar takes three to five years and beyond that, it ceases to work.

Lutaaya says that sometimes the voltage can be less than the things you ascribed to use on your solar panel.  That is to say, you are using more things than the solar could handle. Sometimes, Lutaaya says that the voltage can drop down and it gets spoilt and that is when your solar stops working.

Besides that, Luataaya says that your controller might be faulty. "May be when you undersized it," he says. "The panel might be big but you put a small controller."

If you over use the solar power system and you did not follow the instructions given by your technician, then your solar energy could be at fault. In addition to that, poor caballing can cause your solar to stop working.

Lutaaya also says some people use funny cables that don't match with the whole thing and also the poor quality of panel and battery. "If you have fake panels and batteries, they might not offer you what you really wanted," he says.

If your solar power system has stopped working,   there is no reason to throw it away. Check with your technician and find out what it is at fault and solve it.
