Museveni hails EU

President Yoweri Museveni has hailed the European Union (EU), describing the bloc of 27 countries as a true friend of Africa in terms of contributing to the economic development of the continent and Uganda.

"The future between EU and Africa should be very bright if it is used sensibly, deliberately and realistically," Museveni said on Tuesday.

The President was the chief guest as diplomats celebrated European Day at the residence of Kristian Schmidt, the EU envoy to Uganda.

The EU envoys also commemorated 60 years since the signing of Rome agreements that set the foundation for the EU integration process.

Speaking on behalf of EU envoys, Schmidt said: "Uganda is a friend in need and we are a friend indeed."
