Mpigi police are hunting for a man who reportedly assaulted his wife to death following a fight over food and sex.

The incident happened in Mpambire zone, Mpigi town council.

The fugitive suspect was identified as Ronald Kakooza, 38, a resident of the same area.

Ronald Mugarura, the officer in charge of Mpigi central police station, said Kakooza allegedly assaulted his 32-year-old wife Grace Nabulya.

According to the area chairperson, Francis Walakira, the couple started a quarrel at around 10pm local time when Kakooza returned home. Nabulya reportedly refused to serve him dinner, resulting into a deadly heated exchange.

"The two have been living as husband and wife but they have on many occasions had disagreements and sometimes fought. On this night, they quarreled and fought and the husband assaulted the wife which led to her death," said Walakira.

Police from Mpigi central police station led by Mugarura went to the scene of crime and transfered the body to Mpigi Health Center IV for a postmortem examination.

The suspect had long gone into hiding. Investigations are under way as the hunt for Kakooza continues.

Ben Ssozi, the area councilor who is also a resident of the same village, said the couple has always had disagreements and on many occasions, the man would blame his wife of denying him sex and sleeping with other men.
