Basketball: KCCA, KIU triumph in Easter Cup

Women: KCCA Leopards beat JKL Lady Dolphins 63-45

Men:  KIU beat Warriors 78-68

KAMPALA - After a close-fitting game against the KIU Titans, Pemba Warriors should brace themselves for a new National Basketball League season that begins May 18.

The physical Warriors fell to a 68-78 defeat against their composed KIU opponents to come second in the men's category in the Easter Cup Basketball tournament final at MTN Arena Lugogo.

While coach Hamza Nyambogo's side maintained a tight defense to control the game to the clock buzzer, Warriors had a slow start into the game, making their first scores nearly seven minutes into the first quarter.

Syrus Kiviri scored a game high 21 points, and eight rebounds for Ronnie Mutebi's side but it was not enough to take down the composed Titans.

KIU's new pointguard Micheal Bwanga nailed a game high 20 points to lead his side to victory.  Geofrey Soro added 19 points to a sweet victory.

In the women's category, KCCA Leopards crushed JKL Lady Dolphins 63-45 to emerge the Easter Cup lady champions.

Soro was named the topscorer, Warriors' Stanely Mugerwa came as the top rebounder and Micheal Bwanga was the tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the men's category.

Jamilah Nansikombi was the topscorer in the women's category, while KCCA's pointguard Cynthia Irakunda was awarded the woman MVP.
