Two drown in Lake Albert over Easter

Two people drowned in Lake Albert at Wanseko Landing Site, Buliisa Sub County in Buliisa district on Easter Sunday.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police publicist said the duo, all fishermen, drowned at around 4pm after a canoe they were sailing in while fishing capsized.

He said the deceased's identities could not be provided by press time as Police was still receiving more information about the accident. The cause of the accident is not yet known.

Sources however say the incident followed a heavy downpour which was characterized by high winds that could have been the cause.

Hakiza said the bodies have not yet been recovered but Marine Police and the Army are continuing the search to recover the bodies.

He advised residents to use recommended boats while sailing on the lake especially at times of strong waves and acquire life jackets to secure their lives.

Police is also investigating the murder of a boda boda cyclist in Kapapi trading centre, Kigorbya Sub County in Hoima district. The deceased has been only identified as Mambo.

He was last seen on Easter Sunday at around 7am but was found murdered on Monday on Monday morning with deep cuts to his body, lying in a pool of blood.

Hakiza said they were still compiling all crimes and incidents that could have transpired over the Easter holiday.
