Panamera Bar Murder: Judge sums up case for assessors

On Thursday, High Court Judge Joseph Murangira summed up the case to the accessors and asked them to rightly advise the court on whether to convict or release the accused based on evidence adduced in court by prosecution and the defence.

The trial Judge in Panamera Bar murder case has asked accessors to stick to the evidence adduced against the accused while giving advice of whether to convict or release the suspects.

City businessman Andrew Kananura alias Desh and four others are accused of killing former employee Badru Kateregga to death. Others are his brother Raymond Kananura, Cyrus Maganda, Jacob Onyanyo and Samuel Muzolewo.

On Thursday, High Court Judge Joseph Murangira summed up the case to the accessors and asked them to rightly advise the court on whether to convict or release the accused based on evidence adduced in court by prosecution and the defence.

"This is your time as the accessors to advise court on whether or not to convict  all the accused having heard the prosecution evidence against each of accused. Please stick only to the evidence in court and not rumors," he said.

Murangira told the accessors that in criminal matters its prosecution to prove its case and the accused has no role to prove their innocence.

Prosecution was led by Jane Kajuga and Alice Komuhangi Khauka while the accused are represented by Chris Bakiiza.

According to prosecution, the accused on September 30, 2012, allegedly tortured a one Badru Katerega to death after they found him with sh30, 000 tips that exceeded the allowed amount to be held by any worker at the bar.

Kateregga was a bar attendant at Panamera Bar and Lounge, located in the city suburbs of Naguru.

Court documents indicate that 10 witnesses testified in the case. They included an ex-employee of Panamera bar and Lounge Emmanuel Taika, Mulago Senior Pathologist Dr. Sylvester Ozivua and police officers Edgar Akankwasa and Steven Kalyegira.
