Voters in Kamuli Municipality are casting their votes in a by-election to elect their area MP.

The Kamuli Municipality seat fell vacant when the Court of Appeal nullified the election of NRM's Rehema Watongola over lack of requisite academic papers.

She had won the 2016 parliamentary election.

Electoral commission spokesperson Jotham Taremwa said that the Wednesday elections which started at 7.00am local time are moving on well and are expected to close  at 4.00pm.

The by-election features five contestants, but the race is firmly between FDC's Proscovia Salaamu Musumba and Watongola, who is looking to clinch the seat again.

Samuel Walugyo, Proscovia Kanakutanda and Michael Kiboome are the other candidates.
