Veteran former Cranes defender Derrick Walulya scored the winning goal that handed BUL FC a vital 2-1 win over local rivals JMC Hippos in a tense Jinja derby at Kakindu Stadium on Tuesday.

Yunus Sibira gave a deserved lead one minute before the break with a simple tap-in after JMC custodian Benson Wagima failed to handle David Bagole's 30-yard curling delivery.

Walulya then made it 2-0 mid-second half from the spot JMC skipper Wilson Makulo brought down BUL substitute Yudah Mugalu.

The home side had Moses Batali pull one back two minutes later with a thumping header but Walulya's well organised backline that had Umaru Mukobe, Hakim Magombe and Junior Mukisa at the heart showed resilience composure and calmness hold fort.

Three points for BUL were a valuable pick in the fight against the drop. Victory lifted BUL out of relegation and into the 10th place.

''We had to play with ease and composure against JMC Hippos FC today even though the pressure was on us to deliver in such a game," said Walulya.

''Our game plan paid off and that's why we won today when it mattered most,'' added teammate Hakim Magombe.

JMC captain Wilson Makulo said: ''We came to get a good result today but it's unfortunate that we conceded two careless goals at the back."
