Uganda Cup: Majwega, Nsibambi power KCCA past Kataka

Apr 11, 2017

Kataka went into the half-time break leading 2-1

KCCA came from a goal down to beat FUFA Big League side Kataka away in Mbale in the round of 16 of the Uganda Cup on Tuesday afternoon.

But the reigning league champions will have to tighten their defence ahead of the return leg with El Masry in the CAF Confederation Cup this Saturday in Ismailia after conceding two late goals in the first half.

The victory was a warning message ahead of the return leg with El Masry in the CAF Confederation Cup this Saturday in Ismailia, Egypt.

KCCA won the first leg 1-0 last weekend through Derrick Nsibambi's injury strike.

Brian Majwega put KCCA ahead after 22 minutes before Junior Amanya and Nassur Nandala struck to give Kataka a 2-1 lead at half time.

Majwega levelled matters from the penalty spot before Derrick Nsibambi's double and an own goal from Kataka sent KCCA to the quarterfinals where they'll face Police on 23rd April at Namboole Stadium.

Elsewhere, Express ejected rivals URA 6-5 in penalties after a 1-1 draw to progress to the semis finals.

It was the first defeat for coach Ibrahim Kirya ever since he took charge at URA while the sixth consecutive win for Express across all competitions.

URA took the lead through Allan Munaaba before Mahad Kakooza equalized for Express to send the tie into extra time.

URA and Express face off again on Friday at Lugazi in the Azam Uganda Premier League.

Two matches were played in the Azam Uganda Premier League where JMC lost 2-1 to BUL while Bright Stars and Kirinya Jinja settled for a goalless draw.
