Speaking after jetting into the country yesterday ahead of the 12th annual national internal audit conference which starts on Wednesday, Witzany said internal auditors will play a crucial role if the country is to reduce on graft.

Angela Witzany, the chairperson of the Board of the Global Institute of Internal Auditors has tipped internal auditors in the country to help their organisations in the fight against corruption.

Speaking after jetting into the country yesterday ahead of the 12th annual national internal audit conference which starts on Wednesday, Witzany said internal auditors will play a crucial role if the country is to reduce on graft.

"We have to help the management, the board, and other employees to fight corruption in our companies. Corruption can really destroy the reputation of a company," she said.

Corruption is still one of the biggest development challenges facing Uganda. The country is ranked in the 151th position out of 176 countries in the world, in Transparency International's 2016 Corruption Perceptions Index.

Witzany's schedule starts on Tuesday when she addresses the internal auditors' annual board workshop at Imperial Royale Hotel.

On Wednesday, she will give a keynote address at the national internal audit conference at the Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo. President Yoweri Museveni is expected to open the conference.
