Police in Amuria district have arrested Simon Pius Atumu, 20, for allegedly beating to death Charles Opuya, 28, over his wife Agnes Adeke, 30.

It's reported that the trio were drinking local brew ‘Ajono' in Omadi trading centre when Opuya disappeared from the drinking joint before his lover Adeke followed him.

It was at this moment that Atumu rushed to his home and he found Opuya eating chicken and posho served by his wife in a grass thatched house being used as a store.

"Atumu angrily picked a stick and beat him on the head several times before he collapsed and died," witnesses explained.

Adeke tried protecting his lover but she was overpowered.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening at Guyaguya village in Aakum parish in Acowa Sub County.

Residents in the area testified that Opuya who hails from Obur West village in Acowa parish just two kilometers away from his lover's home had been in love with Atumu's wife (Adeke) for some time.

The District Police Commander Amuria, Richard Erimu confirmed that the suspect is under police custody.
