Police cautions on World Cross Country security

Different security agents have been having a number of meetings to ensure a successful event and the spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan Police Emillian Kayima said that their measures require a lot of collaboration from the public.

"We expect a mammoth crowd at the grounds. Come and enjoy but our message to the public is that let's show our visitors the best behavior. We have had different meetings to discuss safety of everybody and all will be okay if people follow agree with instructions," Kayima said.

He said that although Police will be the most visible at the championship, all other security agencies will be at work before, during and after the championship that officially starts at 2pm.

"Don't carry expensive valuables to the venue that you can lose. The most important you can carry should be your identity card. Not any car will be allowed in," he added.

Despite the 557 athletes from 60 countries across the world, Kampala will host a number of dignitaries that require security to be stepped up.

Kayima said that Police has designed a traffic flow for roads around the Independence Grounds with only specific cars allowed into the venue for smooth movement during the championship.
