The accident involved two vehicles, a fuso registration number UAZ 863C which had parked and Toyota Arce registration number UAP 593Q. Both vehicles were loaded with agricultural produce including matooke, tomatoes and other vegetables.

Nansana  police officer in charge of traffic Benon Kiconco has warned drivers on Hoima road against parking in areas where there is no parking space for cars.

The officer's warning follows an accident at Nalwoga market near TOTAL fuel station towards Nansana Yesu Amala in Wakiso district that left one person dead. The accident happened today (Sunday) at 5am.

The accident involved two vehicles, a fuso registration number UAZ 863C which had parked and Toyota Arce registration number UAP 593Q. Both vehicles were loaded with agricultural produce including matooke, tomatoes and other vegetables.

"I suspect that the lorry that was knocked from behind had parked to off load matooke but it had parked in a wrong place and I warn all drivers to immediately stop this practice," said Kiconco.

The officer said that they are yet to establish the cause of the accident saying that they do suspect that it could have been caused by wrong parking even without parking lights or speeding by the Toyota Arce that knocked.

Kiconco said that Police are to start a campaign to sensitize the public about how to use the newly tarmacked Hoima road to reduce on the rampant accidents.

One of the eye witnesses Hassan Olukere said that the driver of the small Toyota Arce, who took off after the incident, was speeding before he saw another vehicle coming from Wakiso to Kampala. To avoid a head-on collision, according to Olukere, the Toyota Arce driver was left with no option other than knocking the parked Fuso.

Henry Katongole one of the traders in Nalwoga Market said that there is need for more humps on the road right from Nansana  to force motorists to drive at a low speed. The dead man whose body was taken to Mulago hospital mortuary was not immediately identified.

The two vehicles were towed to Nansana police station with the produce but Kiconco said that the produce will be given to the owners after proving ownership.
