Those engaged in the sale of the sachet waragi face jail.

Apac district local council has pronounced a total ban on sachet waragi.

The local gin's ban is due to health reasons, according to Eling G. Owera, the education and health secretary of medics.

He said unlike the locally brewed ethanol (enguuli) that has some nutritional value, sachet waragi (methanol) can be poisonous.

Those engaged in the sale of the sachet waragi face jail.

"A fine of fifty currency points or six month in prison or both, for any shop/person found selling will be liable to a fine of twenty currency points or five month in prison or both, and any person found drinking will be liable to a five currency points or three months in jail or both," the recommendation reads in part.

The district council recommended that the locally brewed waragi remain in the market except that drinking must be from 5pm up to midnight.
