Jobs for surgeons and nutritionists

Doctors with Africa CUAMM is working in 9 districts in Uganda, a major focus of its actions is to increase access to health services especially the poorest. CUAMM considers it a duty to work tirelessly until "access to the highest level of health can be guaranteed for all".

This access can meaningfully and sustainably be achieved by strengthening health systems at district, facility and community levels. To support this effort we are seeking for suitably qualified persons to fill in the positions below.

1. Surgeons; 1(one) to be directly employed by and based in Aber Hospital Oyam district and 1 (one) to be employed as CUAMM Staff based in Matany Hospital in Napak.

Function: Contribute to improvement in quality and scope of surgical services in the hospital. Supervise and mentor young medical officers and be part of senior medical team in the hospitals. 

Job requirements: MBChB, and MMED surgery or equivalent from a recognized university with at least 1-2 years post MMED experience or equivalent surgical experience before MMED. Demonstrated ability to manage common emergency and cold surgical operations in a general hospital and to work with minimal supervision in scarcity.

2. Nutrition Consultant; (1 (one) position in Kampala with Substantial travel to Karamoja) 4 months contract.

Function: Providing technical oversight for smooth implementation of nutrition activities including travel to project sites. Mentoring of nutrition project staff; support to re-design/ re-thinking of nutrition interventions in the project that would lead to better and more sustainable results.

Support upstream (national) and downstream (district) advocacy and engagement to cause desired change and interest in nutrition support for Karamoja.

Participate in national and regional nutrition fora. Build a nutrition resource bank, contribute to elaboration of periodic reports of CUAMM, explore new partnerships, participate in operational research and calls for applications as needed and any other duties as may be requested.

Job requirements: Master Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics/ Food Science and Technology; MPH Nutrition; MPH with nutrition experience; or equivalent qualifications with nutrition bias. At least 3 years core experience in nutrition (IMAM/IYCF) programming and management with demonstrated supervisory function.

Knowledge of the nutrition landscape in Karamoja and in working with district local governments will be an added advantage. Ability to communicate with clarity in speaking and writing and be comfortable with quantitative methods; knowledge of the Uganda national health policies, national nutrition policies, strategies and structures.
