Retired diplomat Olowo Freers wants schools to partner with regions

The former ambassador of Uganda to Germany and the Vatican, Bernadette Olowo Freers has advised education managers to create partnerships with the different regions of the country as a strategy to share and transmit their values.

She argued that if a school like Trinity College Nabbingo recruited students from regions like Karamoja, the same students would carry back the school's cherished values, and share them with the people in the same regions.

"Here at Nabbingo we emphasize virtues like hard work, truthfulness and honesty. If you bring here young girls from Karamoja or other regions of our country, they will learn those values and take them home when they complete their studies. In this way we shall enrich each other and enhance balanced development in our country," Olowo said.

She made the remarks during the annual fellowship Sunday of the alumni of Trinity College Nabbingo (Tricona), which was held at the school, in Wakiso district on Sunday.

Olowo, an alumnus of the school, later asked fellow alumni to have confidence and self-esteem, in order to succeed in life. She further asked them to have the wisdom to recognize the opportunities before them and take advantage of them to develop. Olowo also asked the current students to be involved in sports, arguing that a sport was part and parcel of education.

The President of the alumni, Christine Ikiria Sseppuya asked the students of Tricona to take advantage of the good study environment of the school to excel in their academics.

The treasurer of the alumni, Anne Katongole, asked her colleagues to donate generously towards the construction of the sh7bn Trinity Junior School, which will be the monument for the school's platinum jubilee, which will take place on June 11.

The headteacher of the school, Coltilda Nakate Kikomeko thanked the old girls for their immense love and support to the school.

The function, which was one of the preparatory activities for the school's platinum jubilee, ran under thre theme: Embracing skills development for a globally competitive God-fearing woman.
