A full house is expected as the 15th Edition of the Captain's Prize Golf Tournament tees off with the professionals in action at Kitante on Thursday.

The pros that have a sh10m prize kitty to fight it out for set the tournament in motion with a 36-hole competition before the amateurs descend on the course in the sh70m Hima Cement-sponsored event on Saturday.

Hima Cement Marketing Manager Charles Mugasa unveiled the sponsorship to Uganda Golf Club captain Amthony Kerali during a press conference at Kitante on Tuesday.

"This is going to be an exciting captains' tournament to watch out for as we expect both local and international players to compete. Golf is now a lifestyle in the country but we are also involved in other sports and other CSR activities in the country that help us bond with different stake holders," he said.

Uganda Golf Club captain Anthony Kerali said the medal format of play tournament will be spiced up with a side prize of $4500 (sh15m) provided by Kerusi International for whichever golfer that can score 9 birdies in a row in either the amateur or professional category.

"I'm happy to learn that Hima has offered sh10m for the professionals. Please continue sponsoring golf and make it more international," Kerali said before advising the golfers to have a strategy as they come to feature in the tournament.

"We highly value our long-standing relationship with Hima Cement, and with their support we have been able to beautify the golf club and the course. So we thank them for their continued support."

The tournament is played in honour of the serving captain as he completes a year in office.
