Uganda Premier League side Vipers FC have signed Portuguese tactician Jorge Miguel Da Costa Duarte.

Duarte begins work on Wednesday, just three days to Vipers' CAF Confederations first leg match against South Africa's Platinum Stars.

Vipers patron Lawrence Mulindwa who introduced Duarte at St Mary's Kitende, said the tactician has signed a three year contract.

He however declined to reveal how much the contract is worth.

Duarte, 37, takes over from Richard Wasswa with a key task of professionalizing the club.

"After growing in infrastructure and sponsorship, it is now time to also improve our human resource," stated Mulindwa.

Duarte's tasks will include building what Mulindwa described as a professional academy.

Duarte underlined his thirst for success immediately after arrival by stressing that he is here strictly for work.

"I have come here to work. I am not on vacation. That's exactly why I have left my wife and daughter 6000 kilometres away."

His playing career, that included three seasons with Portuguese giants Porto, was cut short by a knee injury.

The former central defender and defensive midfielder holds a UEFA B license.
