Only 12 players will be selected in July to make up the final team for the tournament
Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) has summoned 32 players who are set to start training on Friday ahead of the U21 Youth Netball World Cup scheduled for July in Gaborone, Botswana.
Head coach Nelson Bogere and his assistant Imelda Nyongesa will be conducting the team's training at Namboole and Lugogo Indoor Arena at different days of the week.
The duo steered the side to a third place finish behind champions South Africa and Zimbabwe at the Africa qualifiers held in Botswana last year to book a slot at the event and according to UNF publicity secretary Wilberforce Mutete, it's the reason they have given them a fresh task.
"We thought they needed to complete their earlier task. They qualified the team and therefore they should also take it through the major event" Mutete stated.
Only 12 players will be selected in July to make up the final team for the tournament.
"We called up many players with an intention of giving them a chance to battle for slots. All of them are students who are not actively involved in the game and this is their chance to showcase their abilities" he said.
Among these, Sera Zamu, Betty Kiiza, Kevin Aber, Sharifa Nalunkuma, Florence Adunia, Privace Kayeni and Stella Nanfuka were part of the team that took part in the qualifiers.
The others called up are; Janet Amongin, Lamula Nakalyango, Fawuzia Nakibule, Shafa Nalwajja, Brenda Namubiru, Angela Namirembe, Saddam Sumaya, Ruth Nakiyingi, Ritah Nakimbugwe, Shafic Shakira, Carol Nakamya, Anet Najjuka, Alice Ayeru, Gift Hamuna, Mercy Batemereza, Mariam Namuli, Sharifa Nagadya, Tausi Mumena, Anet Eyaru, Viola Agudeyo, Scola Amaziru, Dora Lukenge, Mariam Kwiokwinyi and Brenda Nalubega.
