Bright Light FC held Maroons FC to a 1-1 draw in the FUFA Big League at the Lango sports grounds in Lira on Saturday.

Maroons had gone into the game knowing a win would confirm their return to the Premier League.

And after struggling through the opening half, Solomon Walusimbi fired the visitors in front at the stroke of half time - putting them right on course.

Sidney Chika whipped a well measured cross into the box to find Walusimbi who tapped home to ensure Maroons take the lead into the break.

But four minutes after restart, Bright Light were gifted a penalty, with Ronald Orombi the culprit in the box.

Sula Sekamwa stepped up to bring the hosts back to level terms with a brilliant delivery from the spot.

Back to square one, Maroons search long and hard for another goal but were guilty of profligacy on many an occasion.

On the other end of the pitch, their second-choice goalkeeper Emmanuel Akol kept the visiting side in the game with three crucial saves.

The minutes wore away as both sides failed to change the score line, eventually settling for a share of the spoils.

One point on the road ensured that Maroons move 12 points adrift of second-places Ndejje University. They are now on 39 points, and only a win away from promotion to the top tier.

With five games to go, their coach Asaph Mwebaze fancies their chances of returning to top flight competition. It's no longer a matter of if but when.

Meanwhile, in the other games of the day, Doves All Stars beat Simba FC 1-0 while Paidha Black Angels thrashed Moroto United 4-2.

The match between Artland Katale and Kyambogo University did not take place as there was no match official.
