The Buganda Kingdom has launched the land electronic card to ease on the malpractices that have made many people to lose their land.
The Katikiro of Buganda Charles Mayiga thanked his majesty the King of Buganda Ronald Mutebi who fore saw the need of protection of land for his people soon after the restoration in 1993.
During the launch at Serena Hotel in Kampala, Mayiga said the new technology is effective and has been ultized in countries like Japan for many years without being asked for pin codes like on the ATM. He said that the electronic card will ease people on the volumes of papers and allow them to get loans for business.
The Land Electronic Card is a smart card that uses Biometric technology to link a client with land details. It contains body features recorded on the card at the time of registration.
The minister of Information, communication and technology (ICT) Frank Tumwebaze said he was grateful to the Kingdom of Buganda for the first tracking of the use of ICT in their work.
"The World is expanding on ICT usage, one should not get worried that ICT is taking away all the jobs. Even in the ICT there is a creation of jobs to have the equipment maintained", he said
