Namakula improved her Order of Merit standing by 5 places from 43 to 38 after the weekend’s action

Flavia Namakula improved her standings in the Sunshine Ladies Tour Order of Merit after she made the cut in the SLT Dimension Data Challenge at George Golf Club on Sunday.

Playing only in her sixth professional tournament the Ugandan champion earned her biggest pay cheque to-date (sh2.8m) after returning a gross score of 235 (75, 78, 82) over 54 holes.

Despite being 29 strokes off the winner, South Africa's Nicole Garcia, who won with 206, Namakula improved her Order of Merit standing by 5 places from 43 to 38 after the weekend's action.

"It's not about the destination, it's about the journey. It's quite challenging playing on the sunshine tour. But very interesting and it's such a great experience," Namakula posted on her facebook page.

There is even more room for her to build her confidence further at this level as she is also registered for the Sunshine Ladies Tour Classic at Glendower Golf Club, February 21-23, the Sun International Ladies Challenge at Lost City Golf Course, February 28 and as well as in the Johannesburg Ladies Open and the  Royal Johannesburg & Kensington, March 5-7.

The victory on 10 under 216 earned Garcia her second Sunshine Ladies Tour title, a payday worth R70 000 (sh18m) and 650 points in the points race for the Chase to the Investec Cup Ladies Final.

She finished three shots clear of former SA Women's Open champion Tandi von Ruben and six strokes ahead of defending champion Lee-Anne Pace.
