A much-changed Maroons FC brushed aside Moroto United to increase the gulf between them and second-placed Ndejje University in the Elgon Group of the FUFA Big League.

Even with seven changes made, Maroons were still strong enough to see off Moroto by 2-0 on Saturday.

They are now 11 points adrift of Ndejje.

Youngster Pius Obuya put the hosts in front 23 minutes into the opening half before league top scorer Patrick Kaddu cushioned that lead with a 54th minute strike.

That took Kaddu's tally to 13 goals of the season.

It was a dominant display by Maroons who should have won by a much larger margin, having squandered several chances at goal.

Victory nonetheless put them firmly on the path of securing a return to top-flight football.

Maroons coach Asaph Mwebaze said most of his players were rested in preparation for their upcoming away game against Bright Light in Lira.

"If we win that game, it will almost guarantee us a return to the premier league," he said.

Maroons top the Elgon Group on 38 points, Ndejje University, in second, are on 27 points while Moroto United are bottom with a dismal five points.

In another game of the day, Kira United thrashed Artland Katale 3-0.
