Councillors intervene in Park Yard Market dispute

Councillors have resolved that traders operating their businesses at Park Yard Market in Nakivubo to continue with their businesses as the leadership at City Hall intervenes in the affair
This after Kampala minister Beti Kamya wrote to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) executive director, Jennifer Musisi, requesting her to office to avail a status report on Park Yard Market.
During a special council meeting at City Hall, councillor Daudi Lwanga from Kampala Central moved a motion saying that traders should remain at their work stations as Kamya awaits a report from the council.
The councillors also directed the office of the Lord Mayor to request Musisi to avail Lukwago's office with a report on the market which will be debated in the next authority meeting before resolutions are presented to Kamya.
The authority chaired by deputy Lord Mayor Sarah Kanyike resolved that the report be presented in one week.
On February 8th, Kamya wrote to Musisi requesting for the clearance of illegal vendors from Park Yard, Plot 26 Nakivubo Place.
In her letter Kamya claims that she received a letter from the Board of Trustee of Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium asking her to extend instructions for vendors to vacate illegal stations.
According to the letter the minister had verbal communication with the trustee members, saying that they had discussions.
What traders say
The chairman Park Yard traders, Kassim Sebaduka, said government should come up clearly and show that the people who are interested in the market instead of fighting them
Muhamed Musisi the general secretary said currently they are not ready to vacate the area, but they should be given the opportunity to develop the area.
Meanwhile three companies of Futureland (U) Limited, Bestin Limited and Ntelenfulenfune Enterprises Ltd are in court over the same land.
At the beginning of February they dragged the board of trustees to court seeking a temporary injunction against the board's move to cancel the agreements.
