Hundreds sendoff former Uganda cranes goal keeper

The 96-year-old who played for Uganda Cranes for 5 years from 1941 to 1945 during the colonial era died of hypertension at the Jinja regional referral hospital on Friday.
Hundreds of people turned up at Nalubaale village, Wairaka parish in Kakira town council, Jinja district to bid farewell to the former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Christopher Brown Nambago.
The 96-year-old who played for Uganda Cranes for 5 years from 1941 to 1945 during the colonial era died of hypertension at the Jinja regional referral hospital on Friday.

He participated in the East and Central African football competition dubbed GOSEGI cup in Nairobi where the country reached its finals with Kenya both in 1943 and 1944.
He also belonged to the national cricket team for three years from 1953 to 1956.
Much as he belonged to the two national teams, no official from the two sports fraternity attended the burial.

However, Loy Katali, the Jinja woman legislator said Nambago left a legacy of promoting education by encouraging parents to educate their children.
"The deceased has fought a good fight with a straight legacy which is not tainted, he is our role model and everyone should emulate him to promote roles of self-help among the young ones," Katali said.
Edward Kasuti, the President of the Fathers' Union in Busoga diocese said the deceased was a role model among the men, married couples and to the entire society.
Kasuti added that he was their counselor whenever it came to misunderstandings among married couples.
"Today we are sending off a great man in our union, he has been key in promoting peace and stability in our homes, he was a uniting factor and shall greatly miss him," Kasuti said.
Besides, Nambago was a choir member of Christ's Cathedral Bugembe where he was a musician and also played the violin.
Proscovia Katawera, the head of laity heaped praise on Nambago saying he was a disciplined man.
Meanwhile the Busoga diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Paul Naimanhye said the deceased served once as the Busoga diocesan secretary during the reign of Bishop emeritus Cyprian Bamwoze.
Naimanhye who appealed to the mourners to each work for their legacy also urged them to confess and renew their lives.
The deceased is survived with a widow, Jeulen Bakyekose Nambago, 3 children and 56 grandchildren.
Irene Asiba, the deceased daughter who was still in the United Kingdom was named heir.
