New volleyball board praised

The volleyball fraternity has welcomed new president Hadija Namanda appointees to the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) board.

Namanda who has promised to restore sanity, unveiled the board that will manage volleyball for the next four years, last Friday.

The largely youthful team of leaders has Mofaht Masaba as the only veteran who has retained his office as the chairman beach volleyball commission.

Former UVF treasurer Jeff Lwalanda, VVC owner Hannington Nsubuga, former UVF vice president Godwin Ssenyondo and Joseph Ssempiira who contested for the post of first vice president praised Namanda for what they called a balanced board.

"People on the board are not so much driven by (club) sentiments and some of them are new. I'm sure she will try to be transparent with sponsorship of the league and lead without leaning on anyone. Otherwise I have a lot of expectations from the new board," Lwalanda said.

Joseph Ssempiira, who contested and lost the first vice president elections said, "the choices are very okay especially that of the technical director. Head of schools commission Nicholas Obeke is also okay. He has done a tremendous job in the schools and hopefully he can put up a team to grow his agenda to benefit the game. I just wish them the best."

Namanda said, "I consulted and we tried to get a board that will work with the fraternity to see that we selflessly serve the sport we love with dedication and keep the ball flying. The outgoing executive and commissions are willing to support the incoming."

Despite a hitch that saw Obeke face criticism from the fraternity for beating up Kyambogo volleyball team players for indiscipline in Mbarara, Namanda said he was named on the board because of his dedicated performance to volleyball.
