DP issues Kezaala ultimatum to resign

President Yoweri Museveni appointed Kezaala deputy ambassador last week

The Democratic Party (DP) has resolved to have its national chairman, Muhammad Baswari Kezaala, resign his office within 48 hours.

The ultimatum comes days after President Yoweri Museveni appointed Kezaala as a deputy ambassador, a move that came as a shock to the opposition and the party.

The acting party secretary general, Gerald Siranda, said the party convened numerous meetings with senior party officials and resolved to have Kezaala resign and handover office to his deputy Kiwanuka Mayambala on Tuesday.

Siranda emphasized that Mayambala is currently serving as the party chairman even before Kezaala hands over office him.

"We are going to parade him before the media on Tuesday at the party headquarters at City House for him to handover," Siranda said.

He dismissed reports that the party is engulfed in a crisis after losing Kezaala and State Minister for Youth, Nakiwala Kiyingi.

"We had DP member crossed including its leader, Paul Ssemwogerere, we had Kamanda Bataringaya a strong member of the party cross, Dr Specioza Kazibwe crossed but the party has existed . This is not news for us," Siranda argued.
