Rule of law key as Judges conference starts

The 19th annual Judges Conference starts Friday at Speke Resort Conference Centre, in the city suburb of Munyonyo, with the rule of law taking centre stage.

The conference that ends on Sunday, will be held under the theme ‘The Uganda Judiciary as the Guarantor of the Rule of Law'.

President Yoweri Museveni is the guest of honour and is expected to officiate at the opening ceremony.

The objective of the conference is to highlight the role and importance of the Judiciary in defending and guaranteeing the rule of law in society;

The participants are also expected to  identify and address gaps and challenges the Judiciary faces in carrying out its mandate, which are critical to the rule of law;

Another crucial aspect is to examine the role of corporate governance in promoting and guaranteeing the rule of law and;

Also key, will be to share best practices from the rest of the world on how the Judiciary can effectively guarantee the rule of law in a fast changing society.

Other than Judges, prominent personalities in the academia and corporate world, are scheduled to make presentations in line with the theme
