Government to distribute 156 million coffee seedlings

The disclosure was made by a delegation of officials from the ministry who included the minister of agriculture, Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, while appearing before the House committee on agriculture.

The ministry of agriculture is planning to distribute a total of 156.4 million seedlings in the next planting season.

The disclosure was made by a delegation of officials from the ministry who included the minister of agriculture, Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, while appearing before the House committee on agriculture.

Presenting the plan, the ministry's commissioner for agricultural planning, Samuel Ssemanda, said the coffee seedlings will cost government sh46.9b.

In the 2015/16 financial year, government embarked on an ambitious target of distributing 300 million coffee seedlings to enable the country achieve the target of accelerating production from the current 4.3 million bags to 20 million bags by 2020.
