Nyakana, Tumwine disqualified from UOC elections

The Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) returning officer Sim Katende has disqualified four candidates including Godfrey Nyakana and William Tumwine who had intensions of contesting for vice presidency and secretary general respectively.

UOC will hold its elections on January 28th at the committee's offices in Lugogo.

Nyakana, a former Uganda Boxing Federation president, was disqualified on grounds that Uganda Table Tennis Club that nominated him is not recognised by UOC and the same applied to Tumwine.

Tumwine who was in 2011 suspended by UOC assembly for messing up Team Uganda at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, had been nominated for post of secretary general.

The others who were disqualified include Solomon Muwonge and Hakim Kato who were contesting to be voted ordinary executive members.

Those who have been cleared for elections include, incumbent president William Blick who will face Dennis Mbidde for the post of president, Donald Rukare is now unopposed for the post of secretary general, while Ambrose Tashobya is unopposed for the post of first vice president.

Elsewhere, Beatrice Ayikoru is unopposed for the post of second vice president, Godfrey Nuwagaba is unopposed treasurer, Hilary Kimbugwe will battle it out with Dunstan Busulwa for assistant secretary while Moses Mwase, Sadik Nasiwu and Patrick Ogwel are vying for ordinary executive positions.
