Nakumatt Uganda Limited is facing a similar situation that Uchumi faced in 2015 when several suppliers led by Ugachick Uganda Limited dragged the supermarket chain to court for failing to pay suppliers.

The Great Lakes Company Limited has dragged Nakumatt to court over alleged failure to pay over sh39m for supplies made between February and November 2016. The case was filed at the city magistrate's court.

Great Lakes says it has on several occasions asked Nakumatt to pay in vain. The company stated in its court petition that Nakumatt management had acknowledged receipt of the items which included wines among others.

The Great Lakes is demanding pay with interest, general damages and the costs of the suit.

Nakumatt is a Kenyan company with branches in Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi. The court has given it 15 days to file its defence.
