'The most painful gift I love'

“It was so painful but I love my baby boy."

A mother has described her newborn baby as the most painful gift she loves.

"It was so painful but I love my baby boy," said Ann Arinaitwe (pictured top) after giving birth on New Year's Day at Mengo Hospital.

Hers was one of six deliveries at the hospital on the same day. All of babies were boys.

"It is a birthday that I will always celebrate for my baby boy," said Arinaitwe, an executive sales woman from Bweyogerere, a Kampala suburb.

Phiona Nanungi (pictured below) also gave birth at the health facility on New Year's Day.

She had expected to deliver on January 7 but when the labour pains came, she had to come to hospital and eventually was the first to give birth at the hospital at 3.00am Sunday.

"I had not prepared but it's okay as long as I have this gift which came this early," said Nanungi, who is a nurse.

"It is a gift that I will always celebrate to having," she said of her first baby.
